International Desk: After the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) recovered the body of hostage Elad Katzir, anti-government protests began again in Tel Aviv and other cities of Israel.

Hundreds of thousands of people have gathered in Tel Aviv to demand a hostage-release deal and the resignation of the government.

They are chanting 'election now' and 'Elad, we are sorry'.

The IDF recovered Elad's body from Gaza yesterday (April 6). On October 7, Hamas took him and several other hostages from an area called Nir Oz to Gaza. Also last January, Elad was seen alive in a video released by Hamas.

Protesters expressed anger over the Israeli government's failure to free about 130 hostages held by Hamas in Gaza. Family members of the hostages also joined these anti-government protesters.

Elad's sister, Kermit Palti Katzi, blamed Israeli authorities for her brother's death in a social media post, saying Elad would have been returned alive if they had agreed to a new ceasefire deal. Our leadership is cowardly and driven by politics which is why this deal is not done yet. News BBC

Demonstrators rallied in about 50 locations in Israel. Meanwhile, a car plowed into Tel Aviv protests. Five people were injured.

Note that on October 7 last year, 253 Israelis and foreigners were taken hostage by Hamas. About 129 hostages still remain in Gaza. At least 34 of them are believed to have died. The IDF has recovered 12 bodies so far.
