International Desk: Hundreds of people have been killed in a terrible fire at a wedding ceremony in Iraq. Another 150 people were injured in this incident. It is heard that the bride and groom also died in the fire. On Tuesday (September 26) night, a fire broke out at a wedding ceremony in Hamdania district of Nineveh province, Iraq. Meanwhile, emergency workers are carrying out rescue operations in the burnt building of the wedding ceremony in the early hours of Wednesday (September 27). Reuters reported this information in a report on Wednesday.

The deputy governor of Iraq's Nineveh province, Hassan al-Alak, told Reuters - 113 people have been confirmed dead in the fire. However, state media in the Middle Eastern country put the death toll at at least 100 and the number of injured at 150. In a separate report, the BBC reported that at least 100 people were killed and 150 injured in a fire at a wedding ceremony in northern Iraq, state media said.

According to local media reports, the dead are said to include a bride and groom. The fire took place in the Al-Hamdania district of Nineveh province in the northern part of Iraq late on Tuesday night. However, the exact cause of the fire is still unclear, but initial reports suggest that the fire broke out after bursting firecrackers. A photo posted by Iraqi news agency Nina showed firefighters struggling to put out the blaze, and photos shared by local journalists on social media showed burned parts of the wedding venue.

Iraq's civil defense directorate said combustible panels in the burned building may have helped the fire spread further. An official of the department said, "As a result of the fire, some parts of the event hall collapsed, due to the use of cheap construction materials, it collapsed within moments of the fire." In addition, a video taken by a Reuters correspondent showed firefighters entering the wreckage of the building to search for survivors.

Witnesses said hundreds of people were celebrating when the fire broke out in the building at 10:45 p.m. local time. Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Iraq has ordered the officials to provide all assistance including relief to the victims in this unfortunate incident.
