International Desk: At least 30 passengers were injured in a collision between a passenger train and another carrying goods in East Pakistan. Officials said the condition of 5 of them is critical. In a report, Turkish media RT said such information.
Top railway official Shahid Aziz said on Sunday that the railway authorities have dismissed the driver, his assistant and two ground staff of the Lahore-bound passenger train for negligence. The authorities have already started investigating the incident.
Aziz said the incident took place on Sunday morning near Qila Sattar Shah station in Shaikhupura district. The passenger train leaving Mianwali for Lahore was directed to the track where the goods train was already parked.
He said most of the injured were treated at the train station. The seriously injured were shifted to hospital and the tracks were quickly cleared. Such accidents are common in Pakistan. The country's railways use decades-old signal systems and tracks.
