International Desk: The United States will give long-range missiles to Ukraine. The missile will be given to Kiev as part of its support to counter Russia's ongoing aggression. The range of these new missiles to be handed over to Ukraine is up to 300 kilometers. British media BBC reported this information in a report on Saturday (September 23). U.S. President Joe Biden plans to provide Ukraine with advanced long-range missiles to help Kiev's ongoing counteroffensive, according to U.S. media reports.
As part of the aid, Ukraine will receive some ATACMS missiles with a range of 300 kilometers (190 miles), media reports said, citing US officials familiar with the delivery of advanced long-range missiles to Ukraine. Such missiles would enable Ukraine to strike Russian targets much deeper in the front line of the war. According to the BBC, the offer of advanced long-range missiles to Ukraine came as Ukrainian forces launched a missile attack on the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea fleet.
One person was killed in this incident. Besides, there was a fire after the attack. At least one Ukrainian missile hit the Russian Black Sea naval headquarters in Sevastopol on the occupied Crimean peninsula on Friday, local governor Mikhail Razvozaev said on the Telegram messaging app, Reuters reported on Friday. On the other hand, a Ukrainian military source told the BBC that the attack on Sevastopol was carried out using Storm Shadow missiles.
The missile was supplied to Kiev by Britain and France and has a range of just over 150 miles. In this situation, influential media outlets NBC News and the Wall Street Journal quoted unnamed US officials as saying that US President Joe Biden told Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that Kiev would receive a "small number" of ATACMS (Army Tactical Missile System) missiles. These two leaders met at the White House last Thursday local time.
President Biden said this there. Even these long-range missiles will be sent within a few weeks, according to the Wall Street Journal. Meanwhile, the Washington Post, citing several people with knowledge of the arms talks, said Ukraine would receive ATACMS missiles armed with cluster bomblets instead of single warheads.
However, neither the United States nor Ukraine has officially confirmed the authenticity of these reports in the US media. Note that Russia has been conducting military operations in Ukraine for more than one and a half years. Western countries including the United States have been providing military aid to this Eastern European country since the beginning of the Russian invasion.
Washington announced a new $325 million military aid package for Ukraine, including artillery and ammunition, after Biden-Zelensky talks on Thursday, the BBC reports. In addition, the media also said that the American Abrams tanks will be delivered to Kiev next week.
