Government primary teachers will get 80 percent of the posts of education officers

News desk: Last Wednesday, the recruitment rules for gazetted officers and non-gazetted employees of the Department of Primary Education were published. This recruitment rule is named as 'Department of Primary Education (Employee) Recruitment Rules-2023'.

It will be done through 80 percent promotion and 20 percent recruitment in the much desired Upazila/Thana Education Officer posts. In other words, assistant teachers and head teachers of government primary schools will get the opportunity to be appointed as departmental candidates for 80 percent of the posts of Assistant Upazila Education Officer (AEO).

80 percent of the recruitment process for the post of upazila/ police station education officer of notification serial number 26 will be through promotion and 20 percent through recruitment. This is seen as 'good news' for the promotion of teachers.

Earlier, 80 percent promotion was given from the post of Assistant Upazila Education Officer (ATEO) to the post of Upazila/Thana Education Officer (TEO). And 20 percent were directly recruited.

Qualifications to be had

Assistant teachers and head teachers of government primary schools have got the opportunity to be appointed as departmental candidates for 80 percent of the posts of Assistant Upazila Education Officer (AEO). Teachers up to the age of 45 years can apply as departmental candidates for direct recruitment to this post. However, assistant teachers should have 10 years of experience and head teachers should have 3 years of experience to get appointed to this post.

In the recruitment rules, it is said about the appointment of assistant upazila education officer, this post will be filled through direct recruitment. But 80 percent posts will be reserved for departmental candidates. And 20 percent posts will be filled from open candidates.

According to the notification, departmental candidate means government primary school teachers. Departmental candidates should have at least 3 years of experience as head teachers and at least 10 years of experience as assistant teachers. The post will be filled from the open candidates if no one is found suitable from among the departmental candidates. The maximum age limit for appointment to this post is 30 years, but the age is relaxable up to 45 years in case of departmental candidates.

Educational qualification

The recruitment rules prescribe the minimum educational qualification for recruitment to the post of ATEO, Post Graduate or equivalent degree with CGPA of second class or equivalent or Graduation (Honours) of 4 years duration with CGPA of second class or equivalent or equivalent degree. However, if the candidate has more than one third class or division or equivalent CGPA or GPA in his educational career, he will not be considered eligible.
