People should be aware of the protection of river resources: Speaker

Correspondent:  Speaker of Bangladesh National Parliament. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury MP said that the river is the national wealth of this country. Therefore, river pollution should be prevented by not throwing garbage, plastic and abandoned waste into the river. He said, people should be aware of the protection of river resources. 

On August 30 (Wednesday), he visited the East Ekabarpur Naleya river re-excavation program under the project titled "Irrigation expansion in greater Rangpur district through optimum use of surface water and rainwater conservation" organized by Barendra Multipurpose Development Project of Pirganj Upazila under his constituency Rangpur-6. He said these things in the speech of the chief guest during the release of fish.

General Secretary of Pirganj Upazila Awami League and Mayor of Pirganj Municipality ASM Tajimul Islam Shamim chaired the event under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner of Rangpur District Mobashwer Hasan, Senior Vice President of Upazila Awami League Shahidul Islam Pintu, President of Union Awami League, Chairman of Union Parishad and Superintendent of Police Ferdous Ali. Chowdhury delivered the speech. 

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury MP said that August is the month of mourning in the life of the Bengali nation. At this time, he remembered with deep respect the family members of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, Bangamata Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the architect of independent Bangladesh, who were victims of the brutal murder on August 15, 1975.

The speaker said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has been working relentlessly for the development of agriculture and fisheries resources. He said that the government's Ekarpur Naleya river re-dredging program at a cost of Tk 12.43 million will play a leading role in the development of agriculture and fishery resources to protect cropland and homesteads.

Speaker Dr. Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury said that the current government has implemented the promises given to the common people. Sheikh Hasina's government has been making relentless efforts to improve the fortunes of farmers, laborers, auto drivers, vegetable sellers, fruit sellers, cottage industries and small traders.

Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury after being elected Member of Parliament went to all the union and supervised the union based development and said that in the last five years TR 54,87,783 in 88 projects, 114.98 million tons of rice in 17 projects of Kabika, 9 crores in rural road expansion project. A total of 212 projects including 12 Kabita projects and employment projects for the very poor have been allocated 5 crores and 83 lakhs of Taka sixty one thousand.

He said that the current government has given utmost importance to the education sector. He promised to work with the educational institutions of the union which were not affiliated to the MPO. At this time, he highlighted the progress of construction and renovation work of various levels of educational institutions of No. 12 Mihipur Union Parishad.

Meanwhile, he exchanged views with teachers, students and parents at Motherganj Girls High School in Pirganj. Principal of Motherganj Girls High School, Principal of Motherganj Degree College, Chairman of Union Parishad, President of Union Awami League, General Secretary and Assistant Professor of Surgery Department of Rangpur Medical College spoke on the occasion.

He said that the boy who was born in Tungipara of Gopalganj is the father of the nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the visionary of the independence of this Bengal. Everyone should strive to keep this freedom intact. The Speaker said that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is continuing her efforts to raise her head with self-esteem and pride as a nation.

On the occasion of the birthday of the noble woman Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, the Speaker inaugurated a month-long sewing and computer training program for mothers and sisters at Pirganj Upazila Parishad Auditorium. A total of 300 people were taught sewing and 30 people were given computer training by 20 people from each union to show deep respect to the memory of this noble woman.

Speaker also inspected solar street light installation program of Pirganj Municipality, inaugurated sewing and ICT training at Upazila Parishad Auditorium and laid foundation stone of Sheikh Russell Mini Stadium, Pirganj. 

Upazila executive officers of Pirganj, members of upazila administration, local and district level Awami League and organizational leaders, various dignitaries and media workers were present in this event.
