Five divisions of the country are likely to experience heavy rainfall: Meteorological Department

News Desk: Heavy rainfall may occur in five parts of the country. The Meteorological Office has given such a forecast on Friday (August 25) night.

Meteorologist Md. Manwar Hossain said that heavy (44-88 mm) to very heavy (89 mm or more) rainfall may occur at some places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions till Saturday (August 26) afternoon under the influence of active monsoon.  

At present, the monsoon axis extends through Rajasthan, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and northern parts of Bangladesh to Assam. An extension of it extends to the northern Bay of Bengal. Monsoon is active over Bangladesh and moderate over North Bay of Bengal.

Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barisal, Chittagong and Sylhet divisions may experience light to moderate rain/thunder with gusty winds at most places till August 26 evening. Also, there may be moderate to heavy rainfall in some parts of the country.

Day and night temperatures will remain almost unchanged across the country. Dhaka will have maximum wind speed of 10-15 km per hour from south/south-west direction. Rainfall trend may reduce in next two days. The weather may change slightly during the extended 5 days.  

Sitakunda received the highest rainfall in the country on August 25 with 144 mm. The highest temperature was also recorded at Sitakunda at 33 degrees Celsius. Dhaka received 11 mm of rain, and the maximum temperature was recorded at 31.7 degrees Celsius.
