International Desk: Russia claims to have thwarted a major attack in Ukraine. At the same time, the country also demanded the killing of 250 Ukrainian soldiers. The information came amid rumors of a counter-offensive by Ukraine, but there has been no comment from Ukraine yet. British media BBC reported this information in a report on Monday (June 5). According to the report, the Russian Ministry of Defense said that they had foiled a major offensive in Ukraine and killed 250 Ukrainian soldiers. However, there was no comment from Kiev and this claim of Russia could not be independently verified.

Ukraine launched an offensive in the Donetsk region on Sunday using six mechanized and two tank battalions, Russia's Defense Ministry said. According to the BBC, it was promised that Ukraine would launch a counter-offensive to seize territory held by Russia. But before any such operation, Kiev on Sunday called for silence. However, it remains unclear whether the alleged attacks from Russian forces are actually the beginning of an offensive to retake territory in Ukraine. The Russian Defense Ministry said in a telegram, "On the morning of June 4, the enemy launched a large-scale attack on five sectors of the southern Donetsk front. In this attack, the Ukrainians tried to break through the Russian defenses.

But the enemy did not achieve its objective, they did not succeed in any way.''The posted video shows military vehicles being attacked from the sky. Moscow claims Ukraine lost 250 soldiers as well as 16 tanks. Meanwhile, in a separate report, the news agency Reuters reported that the Russian forces failed to attack Kiev and killed 250 Ukrainian soldiers, as well as destroyed 16 tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and 21 armored fighting vehicles, according to the Russian Ministry of Defense. Ukraine, however, has been planning a counter-offensive for the past few months.

But Ukraine wants to take as much time as possible to train troops and receive military equipment from Western allies before launching that offensive. Officials in Kiev also cautioned against public speculation about such an attack, saying it could help the enemy. In a video posted on Telegram on Sunday, the Ukrainian Defense Ministry said, "It is better to remain silent about the (attack) plans." No announcement will be made about the start of the attack. Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky claimed that Ukraine was ready to launch a counter-attack after defeating the Russian troops.

He made this claim in an interview with the Wall Street Journal last Saturday. In addition, some regions of Ukraine have begun to experience the effects of summer. And as the weather was dry, it was expected that their counter-attack would begin within a few days. Over the past few weeks, Ukrainian forces have stepped up attacks on Russia's fuel, weapons depots and logistics routes. Which was thought to be an indication of a major attack.
