Young man gets life imprisonment for child rape in Faridpur

Faridpur Correspondent:  The court sentenced a young man to life imprisonment for the crime of raping a 13-year-old child in Faridpur. Besides, the young man was fined one lakh taka. The name of the person sentenced to life imprisonment is Md. Haroon Sheikh He is a resident of Pachuria village of Alfadanga upazila of Faridpur.

On Tuesday (May 23) afternoon, the judge of the District Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal said. Hafizur Rahman gave this order. The accused was present in court when the verdict was delivered. After the verdict was announced, he was taken to police custody.

According to the statement of the case, three years ago on November 26, 2020 at around 7:30 in the evening, the young man named Harun slapped and threatened and raped a 13-year-old girl studying in the eighth grade on a slab next to a toilet in Pachuria village of Alfadanga. Later, he recorded the scene of the rape on his mobile phone and threatened the child that if he told anyone about the incident, he would spread the video on the internet.

In this incident, on November 27, 2020, the child's mother complained to Alfadanga police station on the complaint of the Prevention of Women and Child Abuse Act and pornography. Haroon filed a case against Sheikh as the sole accused.

The case was first investigated by Sub-Inspector (SI) Shafiqul Islam of Alfadanga police station. Later the sub-inspector of the same police station. Mizanur Rahman submitted the charge sheet to the court accusing Haroon on 28 June 2021.

Practitioner (PP) Swapan Kumar Pal of Faridpur Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal said that this verdict was given in 2000 under section 9(1) of the Prevention of Women and Child Torture Act (Amendment) 2003. According to the court's verdict, a fine of one lakh taka will be given to the child.  

He said, as a result of this verdict, the crime trend in the society will be reduced and the rule of law will be smooth in the country.
