International Desk: Ukrainian troops are advancing from two directions to drive out Russian troops from Bakhmut city of Donetsk in Donbass. However, the situation in Bakhmut is still complicated, according to Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hannah Mayer. Both Ukraine and Russia have said that Ukraine has started operations to eliminate Russian forces. Wagner Group, the Russian mercenary army, exerted all their might to seize this Bakhmut. In addition, the Russian Air Force has reduced the city to rubble by carrying out massive airstrikes.

Despite initially denying it, the Russian Defense Ministry on Friday (May 12) admitted that its forces had withdrawn from some areas of Bakhmut for strategic reasons. Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Mayer said on Saturday (May 13) about the advance of troops from two sides, "Our troops are slowly advancing from two sides of the outskirts of Bakhmut. However, the situation in the city is very complicated. Thanks to the planning of our commanders and the bravery of our troops. The enemy (Russia) could not take control of the city.

But Yevgeny Prigozhin, head of the Wagner Group of mercenaries leading the Bakhmut fighting, claimed on Saturday that his troops had advanced 550 meters. He also claimed that only 1.78 square kilometers from the city center is under the control of the Ukrainian army. Wagner's chief, who has been fighting in Bakhmu for nearly 10 months, has been openly at loggerheads with Russia's defense ministry for days. He claims that his troops are not being given the arms and ammunition they need to advance to Bakhmu.
