International Desk: The term of the grain agreement to ensure the security of exports through the Black Sea will be extended by two months. The contract is scheduled to expire on May 18. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan may announce the decision in this regard first. A source close to the process said this. News from Tas.

The source said, 'I think the contract will be extended for another two months. Russia may agree to this for the last time. 'Traditionally' the decision to extend the agreement could be announced by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan after a phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The source did not rule out that the decision could be announced 'today or tomorrow'.
But the source called the possibility of an extension of the agreement a "signal of Russia" hoping that their various demands contained in the Istanbul memorandum of July 22 last year would be taken into account.

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Vershinin told reporters after talks in Istanbul between representatives of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine and the United Nations that the Russian side of the deal would stop working unless Moscow guaranteed its demands. In this case, their demands must be fulfilled by May 18. They are concerned with the export of agricultural products and fertilizers, the reconnection of the Agricultural Bank of Russia with the SWIFT system and many other issues.

The agreement was signed in Istanbul on July 22, 2022 to facilitate the export of food and fertilizers to the world market. The contract was initially extended for 4 months and then last November for another 4 months.

Representatives of Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and the United Nations met in Istanbul on May 10 and 11 to discuss a possible extension of the grain agreement and the implementation of Russia's part in providing grain and fertilizer. On its agenda was the security issue of the Black Sea Grain Corridor. Source: Bass
