International Desk:  Protests started across Pakistan after the arrest of former Prime Minister Imran Khan. Activists-supporters of his party Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) protested. Protests were held in various cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Karachi, Gujranwala, Faisalabad, Multan, Peshawar and Mardan.

In Karachi, protesters clashed with police near a nursery. They pelted bricks and stones at police cars, broke street lamps. Police fired teargas shells at the protesters.

Police also fired teargas shells at protesters on Muri Road in Rawalpindi. On the streets of Lahore, Faizabad, Bannu and Peshawar, PTI supporters chanted slogans like "Free Imran, Stop Pakistan".

The Twitter handle of Imran Khan's party issued a call for Pakistanis to protest. The tweet said, Pakistan, now is your time. This is the only chance. People should come forward to protect the country.

It also said, now is the time of the people of Pakistan. Khan was always by your side. Now is your time to stand by him. Hashtag added - releaseimrankhan.

Meanwhile, PTI supporters besieged NAB's Abpara office on news of Imran Khan's presence. Section 144 has been imposed in Islamabad after the arrest of former Prime Minister and PTI Chairman Imran Khan. Imran was arrested from Islamabad High Court premises on Tuesday.

In April last year, Imran Khan was dismissed from the post of Prime Minister through a vote of no confidence in the National Assembly of Pakistan. Since then he has been campaigning for early elections.
