News Desk: Announcing the names of Awami League nominees in five city corporations, the party's general secretary Obaidul Quader said, "We have nominated five people in five cities. We have chosen a candidate based on how well the candidate will be accepted in the respective area. He said these things after the meeting of Awami League's local government nomination board held at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's official residence Ganabhaban on Saturday (April 15). Prime Minister and Awami League President Sheikh Hasina presided over the meeting.
In response to a question, Obaidul Quader said that there were multiple nomination candidates in each city. But the nomination has to be given to one person. Now who we choose, that is a matter of decision of our nomination board. In response to another question, mentioning that everything has been nominated, he said, therefore, the nomination has been given thinking about what will have an impact here, what will not have an impact.
Those who have been nominated by Awami League for the post of mayor in five city corporations are Khairuzzaman Liton in Rajshahi, Talukdar Abdul Khalek in Khulna, Anwaruzzaman Chowdhury in Sylhet, Abul Khair Abdullah in Barisal and Azmat Ullah Khan in Gazipur. However, Barisal's current mayor Serniabat Sadiq Abdullah and Gazipur's suspended mayor Jahangir Alam did not seek nomination. Awami League has brought a new face against them.
