International desk: Russia has received the responsibility of the presidency of the United Nations Security Council. According to the rules, the country will perform this duty in the whole month of April. Meanwhile, Ukraine is angry that Russia got the presidency. The country's president, Volodymyr Zelensky, called the matter "ridiculous". The country's foreign minister called it the best April Fool's joke ever. The 15 member countries of the United Nations Security Council hold the presidency for one month at a time.
The last time Russia assumed this responsibility was in February 2022, when it launched an all-out offensive against Ukraine. The role of the President of the Security Council is largely limited to carrying out procedural duties. But Russia's ambassador to the United Nations, Vassily Nebenzia, told the Russian news agency Tass that he would moderate several debates at the Security Council, including one on arms control. He said he will also discuss the new world order that will replace the current unipolar world order.
