News Desk: There is no justification for the price of broiler chicken to be more than Tk 200, said Director General (DG) of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate AHM Safikuzzaman.
He said, there is no justification for the price of broiler chicken to be over Tk 200 at the consumer level. We have held a meeting on this issue and submitted eight recommendations to the government. Hope those concerned will definitely try to regulate the broiler market to ease the suffering of the consumers.
DG of Consumer Affairs Department told reporters after inspecting the Banlata Raw Market of the capital's New Market on Wednesday (March 22). He warned that action will be taken against the market committee if any market is unstable in the country.
The director general said that there is no reason for consumers to worry at the moment. There is no shortage of products in the market due to the upcoming Ramadan.
Earlier, inspectors from the three agencies visited the market and requested the traders not to charge more than the fixed price. This market surveillance program is jointly conducted by the National Directorate of Consumer Rights Protection, Federation of Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FBCCI) and Bangladesh Shop Owners Association.
Manzoor Mohammad Shahriar, Director of Administration and Finance Department of National Consumer Rights Protection Directorate, Helal Uddin, President of Bangladesh Shop Owners Association and leaders of FBCCI were present in it.
Director General Safikuzzaman said, "We have discussed with the traders during the supervision under the slogan 'Buy products if needed, keep prices under control'. I visited the market and saw that there is no shortage of products. But the price of two things has decreased. Now there is only volatility in the broiler chicken market.
