9 people were killed in a strong earthquake in Pakistan

International Desk: A strong earthquake of magnitude 6.5 hit on Tuesday (March 21) night in the city of Jurm in Badaksan, an Afghan region bordering Afghanistan-Pakistan. According to the Pakistani media The News, 9 people have been killed so far in Pakistan alone. Strong tremors of this earthquake, which originated in Afghanistan, were also felt in India and Pakistan. Apart from 9 people in Pakistan, 2 people were reported killed in Afghanistan. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake occurred 40 km northeast of the city of Zurm. It originates at a depth of 187.6 kilometers below the ground.

The city of Jurm is located near the Hindu Kush mountain range on the Afghanistan-Pakistan border. Two people were killed in the Laghman province of northeastern Afghanistan due to an earthquake. In addition, at least 8 more people were injured in that region, said Shafiullah Rahimi, the spokesperson of the country's disaster management ministry. On the other hand, 9 people were killed in different regions of Pakistan. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has been the worst affected. Bilal Faizi, an official of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regional rescue agency, said that landslides occurred in some places due to the earthquake, which stopped the traffic.

Besides, most of those who were killed lost their lives when the roof of the building collapsed. People in Pakistan's capital Islamabad, Lahore and India's capitals New Delhi and Srinagar felt the strong tremors of the earthquake that struck far away in Afghanistan. The tremors in Islamabad were so strong that people ran out of their homes in fear. On the other hand, in India, tremors were most felt in Srinagar, Kashmir. The houses shook there. Residents of Islamabad said that many people saw cracks in their houses after the earthquake.
