6 million people will be provided free medical and drug services: Health Minister

Md Sohail Rana Khan, Manikganj:  Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Malek said that 60 lakh people will be given free medical and medicine services under the health protection program in other districts besides Manikganj. Later, people from all over the country will be gradually brought under this service.

The health minister said these things in the speech of the chief guest at the workshop with government officials and public representatives on the occasion of the inauguration of the expanded health protection program (SSK) in Manikganj district at the Manikganj District Shilpakala Academy auditorium on Saturday afternoon.

The health minister also said that all the members of very poor families will be given free medical care every year under the health protection program. A pilot project was started in Tangail several years ago. This project will be developed in 6 more districts. Among them, the first one was inaugurated in Manikganj.

One and a half lakh families of 7 upazilas of Manikganj will be distributed every year in a package of 50 thousand taka for treatment and medicines for various diseases. Initially, such arrangements were made in government hospitals, but later private hospitals will be brought under it.

Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare said in the meeting. Shah Alam, Joint Secretary Mo Helal Hossain, NDC Director General Sahan Ara Banu, Additional Director General Dr. Rasheda Sultana, Civil Surgeon Moazzem Ali Khan Chowdhury, Colonel Malek Medical College Principal Zakir Hossain, Additional Deputy Commissioner Sanwarul Haque and others were present.

Health Minister Zahid Malek also said, "We want to reach Dhaka-centric health care at the district, upazila and even union levels. For this reason, ICU and dialysis units of 10 beds will be made in each district hospital.

We are working on telemedicine so that people can get better medical care at home. The government is working day by day to improve the quality of health services.
