Import of 3800 metric tons of lentils by TCB through Benapole port

Md. Osman Gani, Benapole (Jesore):  Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) has imported 3 thousand 800 metric tons of lentils from India through Benapole, the country's largest land port. Lentils are imported at USD 1136.13 per metric ton.

These lentil stalks were seen being unloaded from Benapole port on Thursday night. These lentil pulses will be sold along with other products in the open market at government prices in different parts of the TCB country. Earlier, TCB imported 3,200 metric tons of lentil pulses on December 21 and 2,211 metric tons of onions on December 4.

A C&F agent named Confidence Trade Associate filed the necessary documents at the Benapole Customs House to clear the lentils from the Benapole port.

Murtaza Sharif, Manager of C&F Agent, said that in the second phase, the government has again imported 4 thousand metric tons of pulses from India through Benapole port in Mussur. Out of which 3 thousand 800 metric tons in 110 Indian trucks arrived at Dal Benapole port in Mussur. 3 thousand 800 metric tons of lentils are being released. He also said that the remaining 200 tons of lentil will come later.

He also said that the cost of importing these lentils is Tk 125 per kg. From this port, the lentil pulses are quickly released and sent to different parts of the country.

Benapole Port Deputy Director Abdul Jalil said that 3,800 metric tons of TCB lentils were imported from India. They said that they are providing all kinds of cooperation so that these lentils can be released quickly from the port and reach different parts of the country.
