Govt buying latest and up-to-date weapons for army: PM

News desk:  The army is playing its proper role in the disaster. The government is procuring modern and up-to-date weapons to build a strong and professional army.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina made these remarks in her chief guest address at the 83rd BMA Long Term Course Presidential Parade at Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) in Bhatiari, Chittagong on Sunday (December 4).

Chief of Army Staff General SM Shafiuddin Ahmed was present on the occasion.

The Prime Minister said, it is our good fortune that Bangladesh got the status of a developing country in 2021. Since we were established as a developing country in 2021, we want to make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country by 2041. Today's young officers will be the soldiers of 2041. Who will make Bangladesh a developed and prosperous country.

He said that Awami League formed the government after 21 long years after 75. Then steps were taken to modernize the army. We want peace, not war. The father of the nation said - friendship with all, not enmity with anyone, we are following it.

Sheikh Hasina said, we celebrated our golden jubilee year 2021 by setting the goal of socio-economic development of the people of Bangladesh. In 2020, we celebrated the birth centenary of the father of the nation.

Earlier, he reached the Bangladesh Military Academy (BMA) at Bhatiari in Sitakunda at 10:30 am. From there, the Prime Minister will attend the public meeting at the polo ground at noon. He will speak there.

Meanwhile, on the occasion of the public meeting, there is a festive atmosphere among the Awami League leaders and activists in Chittagong. The narrow streets of the city are covered with posters, banners and pylons. Leaders and activists have been going to the meeting place with a procession since morning. In the meantime, police and law enforcement forces have taken security measures around the public meeting.

This public meeting has been organized by the initiative of Chittagong Metropolitan, North and South District Awami League.

It is known that Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate 30 projects and lay the foundation stone of four projects during her visit to Chittagong. For this reason, the foundation slabs have been placed next to the stage of public meeting.
