9 killed in fire in Ukraine

International Desk: At least 9 people died in the fire in the country while heating their houses to escape the winter after the Russian attack on the power plant in Ukraine. Ukraine's state emergency service said the incident occurred during an attempt to heat the house in violation of safety regulations on Thursday. Reuters news. Ukrainians are using emergency generators, candles and gas cylinders in their homes due to increasing power outages, the agency said. Due to which the incidence of fire has increased in the country.

In a statement, the agency said 131 fires had broken out in Ukraine in the past 24 hours alone. Of these, 106 fire incidents were recorded in residential areas. 9 people died and 8 others were burnt. According to the statement, incidents of fire and explosion in multi-storey and residential buildings are becoming more frequent due to use of generators on balconies of houses, use of gas cylinders in houses, lighting of candles and products in violation of fire safety regulations. The statement called on Ukrainians to be more careful at home and to explain fire hazards to children. Russian missile strikes across Ukraine last week have severely damaged fuel facilities. A week after the attack, the power supply in Ukraine has not yet been restored. Weather forecasters said temperatures in the capital, Kiev, would drop to minus 6 degrees Celsius (21 degrees Fahrenheit) overnight and quickly drop further.
