For now there is no division according to the names of Padma and Meghna, the proposal is suspended

News desk: Two famous rivers of the country 'Padma' and 'Meghna' are currently not divided into two categories. The meeting of the National Implementation Committee (NICA) on Administrative Reorganization brought up two proposals in this regard and postponed it for the current year. This information is known from related sources. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina presided over the 118th meeting of NICA at her office on Sunday (November 27).  

An officer responsible for this matter told Dhaka Post that many new offices will be needed to implement the new department. Crores of rupees have to be spent for this. This decision has been postponed due to the government's austerity policy. 

These two proposals were made to implement 'Padma' division covering some districts of Greater Faridpur and 'Meghna' division covering Comilla and surrounding districts.

There is a proposal to form Padma Division with five districts of Greater Faridpur - Faridpur, Shariatpur, Rajbari, Gopalganj and Madaripur. Besides, these six districts of Comilla, Brahmanbaria, Chandpur, Noakhali, Feni and Lakshmipur will form the Meghna Division.

The proposal to form or set up a new department has to be approved by the National Implementation Committee on Administrative Reorganization of the Government. If the committee approves there, the two proposed departments will see the light of day.
