Half-digested body recovered after 45 days of boat sinking in Panchagarh

Al Masud, Panchagarh:  The half-melted body of a person named Bhupen Roy alias Pania (40) has been recovered after 45 days after the boat sank in the Karatoa river of Auliar Ghat in Boda upazila of Boda upazila of Panchagarh.

The body was recovered from the river at the boat sinking site on Wednesday (November 9) afternoon. The deceased Paniya is the son of Madan Chandra of Chatrashikarpur Hatiduba village of Shaldanga Union of Debiganj Upazila.

On September 25, the incident took place when the boat was crossing the river at Aulia Ghat to participate in the Mahalaya ceremony at Badeswari Temple. 69 dead bodies were recovered and three persons including Bhupendranarth Roy alias Paniya went missing. The body was recovered from the river after 45 days of disappearance. Two more people are missing in the boat sinking incident.

Madea Bamanhat Union Parishad Chairman Abu Ansar Md. Rezaul Karim confirmed the recovery of Paniya's body and said that after the recovery of the body, when the family was informed, they came and greeted them. The body was later recovered from Auliya Ghat of Karatoa River and handed over to the family. So far, the death toll has reached 70.
