Awareness meeting on prevention of HIV-AIDS in Pabna

Tofazzal Hossain Babu, Pabna: An awareness meeting was held for professionals on what to do to prevent HIV-AIDS. The meeting was held in the conference room of the Civil Surgeon's office on Tuesday (November 8) at noon. The meeting was organized by Light House with technical support from ICDDRB and financial support from The Global Fund. Additional Deputy Commissioner (General, newly promoted Deputy Secretary) Afroza Akhtar spoke as the chief guest under the chairmanship of Civil Surgeon Dr. Monisar Chowdhury. Maulana Maqsudur Rahman recited the Quran at the beginning of the meeting. Manager Arfiur Rahman Arif gave a welcome speech and multimedia presentation highlighting the activities of Pabna region of Light House. Among others, Deputy Civil Surgeon Dr. Khairul Kabir, journalist and development worker Kamal Siddiqui, Municipal Councilor Tama Islam Pushpa, Dr. Ahsanul Kabir, Additional GP Ed. Arefa Khanam Shefali, Pabna College Lecturer Arif Ahmed, Journalist Prabir Saha etc. Civil Surgeon Dr. Monisar Chowdhury highlighted the concept of gender and sex and urged the Light House to take more plans for awareness about sexually transmitted diseases as well as male to male sex workers with AIDS, proper identification of sex workers and overall support for their treatment and rehabilitation, career change. . Chief Guest Additional Deputy Commissioner Afroza Akhtar said that Light House should not be limited to limited medical services to increase social awareness.

Only if more can be done at the grass root level, it will be possible to play a supporting role in preventing HIV AIDS. Prioritized HIV Prevention and Treatment Services for Key Population in Bangladesh project activities, local law enforcement agencies, public representatives, journalists, NGO representatives, religious leaders, teachers, lawyers, officials of health service providers and human rights workers participated in the meeting to ensure proper services and rights of the target population. .
