Husband arrested for killing pregnant wife in Jamalpur

Md. Imran Mahmud, Jamalpur: Members of Jamalpur RAB-14 have arrested the husband of a victim named Md. Arif (22) on the charge of killing his pregnant wife for dowry in Jamalpur. He was arrested on Friday (November 04) morning from Ghaghara area of ​​Gafargaon upazila of Mymonsih district. Ashiq Uzzaman, Company Commander of Jamalpur RAB-14 CPC-1, said in a press release on Friday afternoon, that a year ago Md Arif (22) of Gaherpara Nishindi village of Gaherpara Nishindi village of the same upazila got married to Meem Akhtar (20), daughter of Moktar Hossain of Amin Nagar area of ​​Jamalpur Sadar Upazila. At the time of marriage, Meem's father Moktar Hossain gave Arif three lakhs of rupees and various furniture as dowry.

A few days after the marriage, in-laws pressured Meem Akhtar for more dowry and sometimes tortured her. Last night (October 18), Arif resumed beating nine-month-pregnant Meem for dowry, and she lost consciousness. Meanwhile, with the help of Arif's family members, Meem tied a veil around her neck and hung her from the ceiling of the house. Meem's father got the news and took Meem to Jamalpur General Hospital and then to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital, where he died on October 25. When a murder case was filed at Jamalpur Sadar police station in this incident, RAB started shadow investigation of the case. Later, Arif's location was confirmed through information technology and he was arrested from Ghaghara area of ​​Gafargaon upazila of Mymonsih district. RAB said that efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused involved in the murder.
