News Desk: Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has severely criticized the BNP for demanding the government's resignation over the energy crisis and loadshedding issues going on across the country.

He said, it is only natural that those who (during BNP's tenure) were shot in the chest for protesting for electricity, who could not supply even a single unit of electricity to the national grid, will comment on today's crisis.

Obaidul Quader strongly condemned and protested the baseless, purposeful and misleading speech of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir.

Awami League General Secretary said these things in a statement on Thursday (October 27).

Earlier on Wednesday (October 26) in the virtual meeting of the National Standing Committee of the highest policy-making forum, the BNP demanded the immediate resignation of the government taking full responsibility for the extreme disaster in power supply.

In the press release signed by the BNP Secretary General, it is said that the current government has completely failed to deal with the situation caused by unlimited corruption, incompetence and mismanagement.

Obaidul Quader said in the statement that the world is going through an unexpected crisis today. The world's largest economies are also facing a serious economic crisis. In almost all countries including Europe-America, electricity and energy crisis has arisen with the increase in the price of food and daily necessities. Due to which our beloved motherland Bangladesh is facing an unexpected crisis today.

He said that without considering the global critical situation, BNP leaders are irresponsibly indulging in various types of politically motivated lies. They are demanding the resignation of the government. Question to the BNP Secretary General - Will the governments of all countries in the world resign? If the government resigns in all countries, the whole world will be without a government! Surely all the countries of the world cannot run without government. In this situation, it is the responsibility of all patriotic citizens to face the crisis with patience.

In the statement, Awami League General Secretary also said that every opposition party has responsibility and duty towards the country and people in the democratic governance system. But Mirza Fakhrul Islam did not play the role of responsible opposition and continued his usual politics of lies and confusion. The countrymen have not forgotten, when BNP was in power they opened 'Hawa Bhavan' and institutionalized corruption; It turned Bangladesh into a failed dysfunctional state through anti-people policies and looting. Avoiding the promise of public welfare, they established clan system and syndicate system.

In this context, he said, the successful statesman and leader Sheikh Hasina, through specific planning and efforts, has made Bangladesh a unique economy state in the World Assembly. During the period of BNP, people were shot in the chest for protesting for electricity. They could not supply a single unit of electricity to the national grid. They will comment on the crisis today, it is natural.

Obaidul Quader said that the entire world is facing a humanitarian disaster due to the Ukraine-Russia war amid the burning wounds of the impact of the epidemic corona. Food and energy security in the world is under severe threat due to increase in inflation. Average growth is also on the decline. Developing, least developed and poor countries have to pay a heavy price for sanctions and counter-sanctions.

He said that despite this situation, our government is making vital efforts to deal with the crisis by maintaining stability. Rationing system has been introduced temporarily to deal with power crisis. In this situation, the way to solve the power crisis is to ensure the provision of renewable energy. Nuclear energy is one of the sources of renewable energy. To achieve that goal, Sheikh Hasina's government has already taken steps to implement short and long term projects. Meanwhile, the construction of Rooppur nuclear power plant is progressing towards the desired goal.

He also said that as a result of the steps taken by the current government, on the one hand, Bangladesh's electricity production capacity has increased, and on the other hand, hundreds of people in the country have come under the power of electricity. At the same time, the demand for electricity has also increased manifold due to the open door of electricity and energy dependent economic activities. Due to the steps taken by the government, it was possible to meet this huge demand without load shedding. But due to the global crisis, electricity rationing measures have been taken in order to achieve some austerity temporarily and deal with the situation.

Obaidul Quader said that the government under the leadership of national treasure Sheikh Hasina is making continuous efforts to deal with the crisis. It is proven today that if there is a leader who can sustain the progress of Bangladesh in facing this global crisis, it is Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina.

He said, we are calling on the countrymen to continue trusting Sheikh Hasina in the past. We will be able to deal with this crisis with the collective efforts of all through patience and responsible behavior towards the specific plan adopted by him, Inshallah.
