Md. Kamrul Islam: Bangladesh is a developing economy, the progress indicators are gradually moving the country towards middle income. Even the corona pandemic could not block the way forward of the economy. But Bangladesh, an advanced economy, is not able to advance the aviation indicators properly. Bangladesh aviation history is very sweet and sour. In air transport, the closing procession is much more organized than the onward procession. 8 to 9 private airlines have made history in the last two eras. Every airline in the past has gone into the abyss forever dreaming of re-emerging at the moment of closure. US-Bangla Airlines and NovoAir, along with the national airline, are helping to sustain the country's aviation industry. Two new airlines, Fly Dhaka and Air Astra, have taken NOC from the regulatory authority to operate in Bengal's air routes last year. It is possible to dream if you are awake. And if you dream while sleeping, after waking up, the dream becomes like a battle. It is seen in various news media that the end of the story is being written before the beginning. Fly Dhaka has begun withdrawing itself from the battlefield like a broken dream. Which is like adding a new feather to the closing procession. The number of airlines that could not come into operation even with NOC from the Civil Aviation Authority is not less. Among which South Asia Airways, Rupsi Bangla Airlines, Neptune Airlines, Epic Air. Air Astra has announced its determination to play a role in accelerating the forward march of Bangladesh Aviation. Air Astra is coming to light the lamp of hope in the domestic aviation after almost eight years of weaving a web of dreams in Bangladesh's air transport. The emergence of the new inspires the old. Biman Bangladesh Airlines is a national airline founded by Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. The journey of Biman Bangladesh started with many dreams. But there have been many setbacks along the way. It is sometimes said to encourage players in sports that winning and losing is not important, participation is important. The national airline has been representing Bangladesh in world aviation since its inception. But Bangladesh Biman was never seen to lead in the international arena. There is no room for stability in aviation, it has to move forward, it has to expand. Competition should be on new routes, through the addition of new aircraft. Stay competitive through service innovation. What are we doing in Bangladesh Aviation in all indicators? As predecessors, private airlines have always sought to follow the path of national airlines. To what extent have foreign airlines been able to maintain the flag of the country? The national airline has not been able to expand the routes equivalent to the 80s or 90s. Even after 50 years of independence, Bangladesh has not been able to sign air service agreements with 50 countries of the world. About 13/14 million citizens of the country with a population of more than 16.5 million are using airspace for work or education or medical reasons or for tourism in different countries of the world. At present, about 70 percent of the market share of international routes in Bangladesh is occupied by foreign airlines, there is only thirty percent for domestic airlines, which is not desirable in any way. Bangladesh aviation is waiting for the arrival of several foreign airlines. What will be the market share status of international routes in the future? Keeping the present intact is essential to secure the future. Bangladesh Aviation is hoping to get some positive polarization in the news of the expansion of US-Bangla Airlines, which started its journey with two aircraft in 2014, and the arrival of Air Astra. Bangladeshi Airlines has the potential to increase the market share of international routes in the future. With the advancement of domestic airlines, Bangladesh will have the opportunity to turn around the tourism industry and the hotel industry as well. In the last 25 years, airlines like GMG, United, Regent Airways have left the skies of Bengal and are flying around the world, destabilizing Bangladesh aviation by taking a place in the pages of history within 10 to 14 years of the start of operations. This has discouraged investment in the sector. No one in aviation expects a repeat of that old picture. Just 18 days after victory on 16 December 1971, the national airline was formed on 4 January 1972 and operated its first commercial flight exactly one month later on 4 February. Bangabandhu established the Bangladesh Tourism Corporation in 1973 on the basis of priority. Based on the guidelines given by Bangabandhu during the three and a half years of his life after independence, Bangladesh is moving forward on the stage of development today. It is really a matter of concern that foreign airlines make business plans based on Bangladeshi passengers while Bangladeshi airlines are not able to reach the right destinations. Domestic airlines should provide services respecting the sense of patriotism of Bangladeshis. Only then Bangladeshi passengers will increase the level of travel on domestic airlines as compared to foreign airlines. As a result, not only the revenue of the airlines will increase, but more participation in the domestic GDP will be seen. It will play a leading role in eliminating unemployment. As a citizen of the country, the national airline Biman Bangladesh Airlines along with US-Bangla Airlines will operate flights to all countries inhabited by Bangladeshi diaspora, as a citizen of all time expectations. If the policy makers realize the importance of private airlines along with the national airlines and create a level playing field for business competition, the private airlines will have a chance to move forward. In today's era, like all the countries of the world, the emerging young society in Bangladesh dreams of traveling in the blue sky with its wings like a bird. And to fulfill that dream, the level of interest in air transportation is more than ever. And to fulfill that dream, the right direction and realistic future business plan will help Bangladesh Air Transport to reach the right destination. With the right plan, riding on a raft of white clouds, floating in the blue sky, hoping to travel across the country and abroad with the dream. Author: Md.
