3 Bangladeshi peacekeepers killed in explosion in Central Africa

News Desk: Three Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and one injured in an explosion while conducting operations in the Central African Republic. According to ISPR in a press release, a vehicle of Bangladeshi peacekeepers was hit by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) explosion during the operations of the United Nations Peacekeeping Mission in the Central African Republic on 03 October (Monday) at 8:35 PM local time (04 October 0135 hours Bangladesh time). 3 Bangladeshi peacekeepers were killed and one injured. The killed peacekeepers are - Soldier Jasim Uddin (age 31, Village: Katinga, Police Station: Vijaynagar, District: Brahmanbaria), Soldier Jahangir Alam (age 26, Village: Dakshin Tit Para, Police Station: Dimla, District: Nilphamari) and Soldier Sharif Hossain ( Age 26, Village: Garak Rua, Police Station: Belkuchi, District: Sirajganj). Patrol commander Major Ashraful Haque was injured. According to ISPR, an infantry battalion (Banbat-8) of the Bangladesh Army deployed in the Boer area in the western sector of the Central African Republic has been engaged in peacekeeping across a wide area since November 09, 2021. A team of mechanized patrols led by Major Ashraf from one of the temporary camps deployed in remote areas patrolled Kaita area yesterday at 7:30 pm. At 1:35 PM Bangladesh time, the first vehicle carrying Patrol Commander Major Ashraf was hit by an IED buried in the ground. The car was thrown about 15 feet away. Soldier Sharif, Soldier Jahangir and Soldier Jasim were fatally injured on the spot. Doctors declared them brought dead when they were taken to Boare Minuska Hospital, 144 km away, for advanced treatment. Injured peacekeeper Major Md. Ashraful Haque is undergoing treatment. Currently, his condition is stable. Other peacekeepers deployed to the Central African Republic are safe. The process of bringing the bodies of the martyred soldiers to the country as soon as possible is underway. Bangladesh Time: 1903 hours, October 4, 2022
