9 lakh taka robbed from couple in Pabna

Tofazzal Hossain Babu, Pabna: A couple was robbed of Tk 9 lakh cash in broad daylight on their way home from the bank in Pabna city. At that time, the robbers escaped by firing blank bullets while trying to stop them. The robbery took place in front of Gachpara Municipal Gate of Sadar Upazila around 2.30 pm on Tuesday (04 October). The couple's house is in Gachpara village. Abdul Majid, a village doctor in Gachpara Bazar, said that at noon, his son-in-law Omar Saiful Islam and Mahmuda Khatun couple were returning home in a rickshaw after withdrawing Tk 9 lakh cash from Shahjalal Islami Bank in Pabna city. At that time, two robbers on a motorcycle chased them. They did not realize this. While alighting from the rickshaw near the municipal gate at Gachpara Bazar, the robbers blocked the way and forcibly snatched the money bag. At that time the couple tried to stop them and started shouting. When the people around came running, the robbers fired blanks and fled causing panic. Abdul Majeed said that a mobile phone left by the robbers was found at the scene. Pabna Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) Masud Alam confirmed the fact of the robbery incident and said that the Superintendent of Police visited the spot immediately after hearing the news. A few rounds of blank fire were heard. A police operation has already started to catch the robbers. The issue of filing a complaint in the police station is under process.
