News desk: Barguna district BNP has split into several groups. Convening committee announced on reorganization of 9 unit committees and nominations for parliamentary elections. After the announcement of the new convening committee, a section of the BNP has been active in the program but the rest have become completely inactive in the party activities. Senior leaders feel that the divided BNP has no choice but to unite to attack the stronghold of Awami League in Barguna-1 seat. According to the district BNP office sources, on June 8, the Center approved the 31-member convening committee of Barguna district BNP by appointing Mahbubul Alam Farooq Mollah as the convener and Tarikuzzaman Titu as the member secretary after abolishing the previous committee. In August, BNP dissolved 10 committees of upazila and municipal units and started reorganizing the committee and they have already made 9 unit committees. In Barguna Press Club on September 11, Senior Joint Convener of District BNP A ZM Sale Farooq expressed his disbelief in the committee by claiming that the convener and member secretary of BNP had formed committees in various upazilas arbitrarily, unstructured and irregularly. In addition to the leaders of the convening committee of the district BNP, around 20 leaders of the organ organizations were present in the press conference. Meanwhile, they submitted a written complaint to the acting chairman of the party this month, demanding the cancellation of the committees. District BNP convenor and member secretary told Sangam Prakash, “The top leaders of district BNP have denied these allegations. In 2018, the district BNP committee could not form a unit committee in the last four years. We did that within three months of forming the convening committee. We have appointed the committee as per the instructions of the high command of the party ahead of the parliamentary elections. They have made these complaints because inactive and controversial people are not given place in the committee.” According to BNP sources, in the conference in 2009, Mahbubul Alam Farooq Mollah was announced as the president and SM Nazrul Islam as the general secretary of the 151-member district BNP committee. Farooq-Nazrul Committee After leading the district BNP for 9 years, on January 29, 2018, Farooq Mollah's brother Nazrul Islam Mollah was appointed president and former Jatiya Party leader Advocate Md. Halim was announced as the general secretary of the 63-member committee of Barguna district BNP. The committee was approved by BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir. A section of BNP along with Mahbubul Alam Farooq Mollah rejected the Nazrul-Halim committee as the committee was formed without a conference. After that for four long years Nazrul-Halim Committee continued party activities with their supporters. On the condition of anonymity, a top leader of the district BNP told Sangam Prakash, “Barguna district BNP leaders are divided into three groups. Present convening committee convener Mahbubul Alam Farooq Mollah and member secretary Tarikuzzaman Titu in a group. The current convenor committee wants BNP's Central Executive Committee to nominate either Feroze Uz Zaman Mamun Molla or current convener Mahbubul Alam Farooq Molla for the upcoming parliamentary elections. For this purpose they are creating units with youth. Advocate Nurul Amin, Fazlul Haque Master and KM Shafiquzzaman Mahfuz, members of District BNP convening committee and supporters of Barguna-2 Constituency MP Nurul Islam Moni are expecting Nurul Islam Moni to be nominated in Barguna. On the other hand, supporters of former president Nazrul Islam Molla, former organizing secretary and current convening committee member Humayun Hasan Shaheen, Zafrul Hasan Zafar and District Fishermen's Party President Mainul Islam Mainuddin want Nazrul Molla to be nominated. The district BNP is divided into three groups. District BNP convening committee member secretary Tarikuzzaman Titu told Sangam Prakash, "Young leader BNP central executive committee co-labor secretary Feroze Uz Zaman Mamun Molla is giving full support to district BNP by participating in our program. Mamun Molla gained popularity in Barguna and became a cause of fear for Awami League. There are some people in the pro-Awami BNP who have started conspiring to criticize us because they cannot accept it.” Tarikuzzaman Titu said, "Talking to the Acting Chairman of BNP, Tariq Rahman, we have started the reorganization of 10 units of Barguna district BNP and have already formed 9 with the aim of forming a youth-based party under his guidance. A section of the party is criticizing for not accommodating the controversial people there. We are working on organizing the team as per the instructions of the party high command. In the meantime, we have strengthened the anti-government movement by organizing the district BNP and in the last 20 years, BNP has not been active like this in Barguna. Those who criticize were unsuccessful in the past. We are in the field with youth-based energy with the youth and that is how BNP is moving ahead with the parliamentary elections.” District BNP convener Mahbubul Alam Farooq Mollah told Sanbad Prakash, "The district BNP is now moving forward with united power. We are not doing activities at home or office, we are fighting in the field. Those who used to sit in politics at home are criticizing because they cannot tolerate it. We are moving forward by organizing the party targeting the upcoming parliamentary elections without taking these things into consideration. District BNP is now stronger than ever in Barguna.”
