8 Bangladeshi women have returned home after serving their sentences in India

Osman Gani, Benapole representative: 8 Bangladeshi women who were trafficked to India illegally through brokers on the lure of good work have been handed over to the Indian Immigration Police through the Benapole check post after serving a 3-year sentence through a special travel permit. They were handed over to Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police on Wednesday (August 17) evening. They are - Rain Akhtar of Dhaka, Rebecca Khatun of Jessore, Nasreen Mondal and Ritu Akhtar of Bhola, Liza Mondal and Sultana Begum of Comilla, Helena Khatun of Gopalgagya and Rebecca Akhtar of Khulna. Benapole Checkpost Immigration Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said that Bangladeshi women who returned on special travel permits of the Indian government were handed over to Benapole Port Police Station after the immigration formalities. From there, two NGOs namely Justice and Care and Mahila Lawyer Samiti will hand over them to their families. Muhit Hossain, senior program officer of Jessore Justice and Care, said that the 8 returning women will be taken from the police station and kept in Jessore Justice and Care and Women Lawyers Association's own shelter home. Later the family will be contacted and handed over to them.
