International Desk: At least 20 people were killed in a terrible road accident in Pakistan. Six other passengers were injured in this incident. This incident occurred in the early morning of Tuesday (August 16) when a passenger bus collided with an oil tanker on the Multan-Sukkur Motorway in the Punjab province of the country.

This information was reported by Pakistani media The Dawn in a report on Tuesday citing officials.

According to the report, Multan Deputy Commissioner Tahir Wattu confirmed the truth of the accident and casualty in a statement. He said the Lahore-bound Karachi-bound passenger bus rammed the oil tanker from behind at Jalalpur Peerwala Interchange on Multan-Sukkur Motorway.

The fire broke out after the oil tanker was rammed from behind, killing 20 people on the spot, the statement added.

Later Multan Commissioner Aamir Khattak also confirmed the accident in a tweet. He said that the accident happened around 4 am on Tuesday.

However, a statement from the Provincial Monitoring Center of Rescue 1122 in Lahore, Punjab said that the accident occurred at 2:20 pm on Tuesday.

Besides, pictures of the accident site shared from Multan's commissioner's account showed the burnt wreckage of buses and oil tankers.

Meanwhile, Dawn News TV reported quoting a spokesperson of the Motorway Police that the oil tanker that was involved in the accident was carrying several thousand liters of petrol. He also said that till now it is believed that this terrible accident happened due to the bus driver falling asleep.

Dr. Medical Superintendent of Multan Nishtar Hospital. Amjad Chand also told Dawn that four of the injured have been initially shifted to the burn unit and arrangements are being made to keep 20 bodies in the hospital morgue.

Later, DC Wattu said in another statement that DNA test process is being started to identify the victim.
