News desk: In view of re-fixation of fuel oil prices, passenger fares on boats have been adjusted by 30 percent. This decision will be effective from Tuesday (August 16).

Earlier, the government implemented the new price of fuel oil after 12 pm on August 5. The price of diesel and kerosene has been increased by 34 rupees to 114 rupees, the price of petrol has been increased by 44 rupees to 130 rupees and the price of octane has been increased by 46 rupees to 135 rupees.

In view of this, a proposal was made by the Bangladesh Inland Navigation Passenger Transport Agency to increase the boat fare. On August 8, the Secretary of the Ministry of Shipping sat in a meeting with the concerned parties at the Secretariat. Mustafa Kamal However, the Ministry of Shipping formed a working committee without taking any decision regarding the fare increase in the meeting. On the same day and night, the committee proposed to the government to increase the fare by 19, 22, 25, 30, 35, 40, 42 and 50 percent depending on the boat.

Launch fares were hiked by more than 35 percent in November last year after a 23 percent hike in diesel prices. Before November, the fare was Rs 1 70 paise per km for distances within 100 km of the launch. Then it was increased from 2 taka to 30 paisa.

The fare per kilometer for a distance of more than 100 km was 1 taka 40 paisa before November. It was increased by Rs.2. And the minimum launch fare was increased from Tk 18 to Tk 25 in November.
