Husband sentenced to death for killing wife for dowry demand in Pabna

Tofazzal Hossain Babu, Pabna: The court has ordered the hanging of husband Sifat Ali for killing housewife Nachima Khatun for demanding dowry in Dhulauri of Haripur Union of Chatmohar Upazila in Pabna. At the same time, three accused in the case have been acquitted. The court also ordered a fine of 50 thousand rupees to the accused. Judge Mizanur Rahman of Pabna Women and Child Torture Prevention Tribunal announced this verdict at around 11:30 on Sunday (August 14). The accused Sifat Ali is the son of Rabbel Ali of Dhulauri Skulpara village of Chatmohar upazila. The accused was present in the court during the verdict. He was later sent to jail. Acquitted accused are released. The deceased housewife Nachima Khatun is the daughter of Ardesh Pramanik of Vitakajipur village of Baraigram upazila of Natore district. They have a son and a daughter in their family. According to the statement of the case, on the morning of September 26, 2013, Sifat ran away after beating and strangling his wife Nasima along with family members for demanding dowry. Later, the victim's father Ardesh filed a murder case in the name of 5 people at Chatmohar police station. On January 15 of the following year, the investigating officer filed a charge sheet in the court accusing 5 people. One accused died during the course of the case. The verdict was announced after a long legal process and the testimony of 9 witnesses. Although the plaintiff expressed satisfaction with the verdict, the lawyer and the family of the accused expressed displeasure. Advocate Iti Hossain, the lawyer for the accused, released that we are angry with the verdict. We will appeal to the higher court. I hope that the accused will be proved completely innocent and will be acquitted. Special PP advocate of the tribunal Khandaker Abdur Raqib, the lawyer for the state side of the case, said that this is a landmark verdict. Through this rule of law and justice has been established. Hope the execution will be done very soon
