International Desk: Protests against rising cost of living and corruption in the West African country of Sierra Leone turned bloody. At least 27 people were killed in the violence. Six police officers are also among the dead. A curfew was imposed on Wednesday (August 10) to bring the situation under control following the bloody protests. Later today Thursday (August 11) it was decided to maintain the curfew from 7 am to 7 pm. Sierra Leone police IG William Favia Cellu said six policemen died in the violence. People in the capital Free Town and other cities across the country are demanding the resignation of President Julius Mada Bio. The slogan in these protests was ``BO must go'' ie (President) BO must go. It is known that President Bo is now out of the country with his family. The responsibility of the government is now on the Vice President Mohamed Julde Jallo. It was he who issued curfew across the country on Wednesday. Correspondents report that there was long-standing pent-up anger among the people about corruption in the government and police excesses. That anger has now erupted due to the increase in the prices of daily necessities in the market. According to World Bank statistics, half of Sierra Leone's 8 million people live below the poverty line.
