Sonamsjid land port has not been modernized even though the revenue has increased more than the target.

Md Farooq Hossain, Chapainawabganj: The country's second largest Chapainawabganj Sonamsjid land port has collected about Tk 150 crore more than the revenue target for the fiscal year 2021-2022. Although the revenue collection is high, the Sonamsjid land port has not yet touched modernity. And the concerned authorities do not care about the safety of the port and workers. Customs officials say that the revenue has been collected due to the import of fruits and other products in this financial year.

Abdul Awal, the former president of C&F Agent Association, said that it is not possible to operate a pot with 20 acres of land, if its scope is increased in the future, then the scope of business will increase. Another businessman Khairul Islam said that due to less space in the port, there are complications in clearing the goods. Trucks carrying Indian goods have to be kept in the port for a long time. A large sum of money has to be added only if it is passed within the stipulated time.

 The problems in Sonamsjid land port which are identified and solved will bring back traders from other ports to this port. And revenue collection will also increase.

Meanwhile, Aminul Islam, the labor leader of the port, said that even if the port workers get sick while working, they have to face problems because there is no system at the port. No one cares about the safety of workers. The workers demand that the port should have a medical, ambulance and fire service. Labor leader Aynul Haque said that we are demanding a fire station and a medical center at this port considering the safety and security of the workers.

Panama Port Manager of Sonamsjid Port, Mainul Islam, said that considering the port and the workers, the government has sent demands for a fire station and a medical sub-center among others.
