Robbery-rape in moving bus: 6 accused in 3 days remand

Md. Rashed Khan Menon (Russell, Tangail: The court granted remand for three days to six persons arrested in connection with the robbery and rape of a moving bus in Tangail. Tangail Judicial Magistrate Court Senior Judicial Magistrate Farzana Hasanat gave this order on Tuesday (August 9) afternoon. Statement of the rest of the arrested under section 164 is ongoing. Tangail Court Inspector Tanveer Ahmed confirmed the matter. Those remanded are Sohag Mondal (20), Khandkar Hasmat Ali alias Dipu (23), Babu Hossain alias Julhas (21), Md. Jiban (21), Abdul Mannan (22) and Naeem Sarkar Munna (19). The four accused who gave their statement are Ratan Hossain (21), Md. Alauddin (24), Russell Talukder (32), Aslam Talukder alias Raihan (18). It should be noted that 13 people were involved in the robbery of a moving bus and gang-rape of a woman in Tangail's Madhupur on the night of August 2. Some of them work as bus helpers or in garment factories. In this incident, RAB arrested 10 members of the dacoit gang, including Ratan, the main planner. The intelligence wing of RAB headquarters, RAB-12 and RAB-14, conducted raids in Dhaka, Gazipur and Sirajganj from Sunday evening to midnight and arrested them. Helal Uddin, officer-in-charge (OC) of Tangail District Detective Police and investigation officer of the case said that RAB has handed over 10 people arrested in this case to us. They have been interrogated. The accused were produced in court. Three of the previous arrestees are in jail. They gave a confessional statement in court.
