Two more accused arrested in Tangail bus robbery and rape case

Rashed Khan, Tangail: Two more accused have been arrested by the District Detective (DB) Police in connection with the robbery and rape of the Eagle Transport bus from Kushtia. They were arrested from Kaliakair and Sohagpally in Gazipur early on Friday (August 5). Tangail Superintendent of Police Sarkar Mohammad Qaiser confirmed this information in a press conference at his office at 12 noon. The arrested are - son of Shukur Ali of Kanpur village of Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur. Awal (30), Noornabi (26) son of Bahez Uddin of Roumari police station in Kurigram district. All those arrested are drug addicts. The court granted a five-day remand to Raja Mia, who was arrested on Thursday afternoon immediately after the incident. Since then, the police have started questioning him. Information about the bus robbery gang is being taken from him. Police Superintendent said that they are being interrogated about whether they have participated in any other robbery activities, the number of members of their group, and what kind of crimes they are involved in. Efforts are on to arrest the other accused. It is to be noted that a bus of Eagle Transport left for Narayanganj from Daulatpur in Kushtia last Monday evening. At around 11:30 pm the journey stopped at a food hotel in Sirajganj. After starting the journey from there, a few dacoits boarded the bus in three rounds. After the bus crossed Tangail, the robbers took control of the bus, holding the driver hostage at gunpoint. They tied the hands, feet, eyes of the passengers and looted them all. At that time, a female passenger in the bus was raped and tortured. The robbers took the bus towards Tangail-Mymensingh road. At around 3:30 pm, they dropped the bus in the road ditch at a place called Raktipara in Madhupur upazila. Later local people and fire service personnel rescued the passengers. Later, the police actually reported the robbery and torture of the passengers. Hekmat Mia, the passenger of that bus, filed a case of bus robbery and rape at Madhupur police station.
