Kurigram Correspondent: In Kurigram, the eleventh class students of Yadurchar Degree College of Roumari Upazila formed a human chain to protest against depriving 169 students of the Prime Minister's Educational Assistance Trust stipend due to the conflict between the college authorities. Today, Tuesday (02 August) this human chain was held at Jadurchar Degree College ground of the upazila. The students in the human chain said that we could not withdraw the money today as the college authorities did not send the list of students to the concerned department by April 21. We have submitted all the necessary documents to the college on time as per the instructions of the college authorities but due to their own conflict, the college authorities have not forwarded those documents to the concerned department. As a result, we 169 students have been deprived of a total of 20 lakh 28 thousand taka stipend. Now our demand is to take necessary measures to bring under the stipend including justice for those who have such incidents. In this regard, the Principal of Jadurchar Degree College, Rafiqul Islam, said that despite giving written instructions to the office assistant Mustafa Kamal and Masood Parvez to send the list of students at the appointed time, they did not obey. Office Assistant Mustafa Kamal said, the Acting Principal of that time Shafiqul Islam blocked the preparation of the stipend list. Acting principal Shafiqul Islam said, after receiving the judgment from the high court, the principal Rafiqul Islam wrote to me on March 20. After that I stepped down as Acting Principal and there was no question of obstructing the preparation of the list of employees. In this regard, Roumari Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Ashraful Alam Russell said, "I have received the complaint of the students and will investigate and take necessary measures."
