Sports Desk: This year's Asian Games, known as the ``Olympics of Asia'' in Hangzhou, China, was supposed to be held in the month of September. But last May, due to the increase in the number of coronavirus infections in the country, the event was decided to be postponed indefinitely. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) has announced a new schedule for the Asian Games on Tuesday (19 July). According to the new schedule, this sports festival of Asia will be held from September 23 to October 8, 2023. The OCA task force decided the new schedule after discussions with the Chinese Olympic Committee and the Hangzhou Asian Games Organizing Committee. More than 11,000 athletes from 44 countries will participate in this year's Asian Games. This year's host city, Hangzhou, is located near China's largest city, Shanghai. The OCA decided to postpone the event due to the increase in the number of corona cases in the city. Asian Games organizers announced last April that construction of 56 venues for the competition in Hangzhou, a city of 1.2 million people, had been completed. The Winter Olympics were held in China in February this year. The competition was held under strict biosecurity measures.
