News Desk: Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal has expressed hope that a consensus will be established among all parties. "Some political parties are still announcing that they will not run in the by-elections," he said. But we will try to establish consensus among all parties. As if there is a participatory election. ”

The CEC told reporters after a meeting with a delegation of diplomats from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) led by the European Union (EU) High Commission in Bangladesh on Sunday (July 3rd).

During the meeting, the diplomats talked about sending observers to the elections, said Kazi Habibul Awal. We have said that there is no obstacle from this side. However, you can discuss this issue diplomatically. I have asked the delegation to talk to the foreign ministry about the foreign observers during the election. ”

He said the Election Commission (EC) would continue its efforts to bridge the gap between the political parties in the run-up to the next national elections.

The CEC said that the diplomats were optimistic about bridging the gap between the political parties. "It is a tradition that they have come," he said. He has come before, this is the continuity. He wanted to know about the rules and regulations of the upcoming parliamentary elections and our preparations. We have informed our activities. They usually emphasize democratic values. That is why they will be happy if the election is inclusive, acceptable, free and fair, and the whole country will be happy. ”

Asked if foreign diplomats had said anything about co-operation, the CEC said, "They have spoken of co-operation. However, we did not say anything in a hurry. We have said that we will discuss whether we need cooperation or not. If any technical assistance is required, we will let them know. We have not sought any cooperation yet. ”

He added, “Everything is election related. Issues such as voter education or capacity building of the EC may come under co-operation. However, we have not yet sought cooperation. Let me know if needed. As a result, it is not clear what kind of cooperation will be needed or not at all. ”
