Biden announces increase in US troops across Europe

International Desk: At the NATO summit in the Spanish capital, Madrid, US President Joe Biden announced an increase in the US military presence across Europe, land, air and sea. He says the US decision is because Russian President Putin has destroyed peace in Europe. The US TV network CNN says a permanent headquarters of the US Army's Fifth Corps will be set up in Poland. Three thousand more troops will be deployed in Romania. The number of American troops in the Baltic countries will be increased. Biden has announced an increase in US military presence not only in Eastern Europe but also in Western Europe. Two more squadrons of state-of-the-art F-35 fighter jets will be deployed in Britain. In addition, the air and missile defense systems of Italy and Germany will be further strengthened. Two more destroyers will be sent to the Rota Naval Station in Spain to boost the strength of the US Navy in Europe. After meeting with NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg on Wednesday, Biden said, "Together with our allies, we will make sure that NATO is ready to deal with any kind of threat anywhere." The US president said the need and importance of NATO is greater now than ever before.
