SSC examinee dies after bathing in Padma river in Pabna

Tofazzal Hossain, Pabna: An SSC examinee named Rahul Hasan Sabbir drowned in the Padma River at Ishwardi in Pabna. The incident took place around noon on Tuesday (June 26) in the Padma branch river of Rooppur Nalgari village in Pakshi union of the upazila. He is the son of Sagar Hossain Swapan of Baraichara village in Salimpur union of Sabbir upazila and a 10th class student of Natun Rooppur High School. Eyewitness Piyas of Rooppur said that four friends Sabbir, Shimul, Shihab and Saad took a bath in the river Padma around 1.30 pm on Tuesday. Seeing that Sabbir was drowning without knowing how to swim, Shimul and Saad went to rescue him and they both drowned. Locals were able to rescue Shimul and Saad but Sabbir went missing in the water. Upon receiving the news, the fire service members raided the river for about two hours and rescued Sabbir at around 3:30 pm and took him to Ishwardi Upazila Health Complex where the on-duty doctor declared him dead. Salimpur Union Parishad chairman Abdul Majid Bablu Malitha said Sabbir used to study at the new Rooppur High School from the house of his grandfather Nabu member at Rooppur Jigatala. He was an SSC candidate this time. Atiqul Islam Atiq, in-charge of Rooppur police outpost, said members of the fire service recovered Sabbir's body. His body will be handed over to his family at the end of the legal process.
