Son killed while trying to get fair price for mother's labor in Bogra: Arrested 2

Sanju Roy, Bogra: Police have arrested two accused in the case of beating to death of Jewel, son of Josna Begum, a woman worker, in a dispute over salary with Chatal Malik at Dupchanchia in Bogra. The arrested are Afshar Ali, 65, of Ayaz Uddin of Chhota Paikpara village and Sadekul Islam Bhola, 25, son of Salamat of Dharshun village. They were sent to jail on Friday afternoon. Earlier, on Friday morning, they were arrested from their respective homes. According to police and case sources, Josna Begum had been working as a laborer in Akkach Ali's paddy field in Paikpara area of ​​the upazila for the last four years. At first he was paid a monthly salary of Tk 4,000 but later he was paid Tk 3,000. But last month he was given 2,500 rupees instead of 3,000 rupees. Last Saturday (June 4), the woman's son Jewel got into a quarrel with the owner of the flat, Akkach Ali, over the incident. At one point, he beat Jewel with a branch of an eucalyptus tree. When Jewel protested, the accused ran and beat him with iron rods, wooden batons, bamboo sticks and other indigenous weapons with the intention of killing him. When mother Josna Begum came forward after hearing her son's call, she was also beaten. At the same time, the accused told him that he could not be treated in any hospital, if he did, his son (Jewel) would be killed and his body would be buried. Mother Josna became helpless and took shelter with her sick son at her brother Sohail's house in Chhota Paikpara village of the upazila. The next day, in fear, he took refuge at his niece's house in Dipuil village, Kahalu, Bogra. Jewel died there around 2.30pm on Thursday. Jewel's mother filed a murder case against six people at the police station. The lawsuit was settled out of court on Thursday night. Dupchanchia Police Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abul Kalam Azad said the body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Morgue for autopsy. The accused Afshar Ali and Sadequl Islam were arrested from their homes on Friday morning. Each of the accused has been remanded for seven days. An operation is underway to nab the other accused.
