Attack on presidium members and former MPs at extended meeting of Jatiya Party in Tangail

Rashed Khan Menon, Tangail: At an extended meeting of the Jatiya Party (JPA) in Tangail, the party's presidium member and district convener Abul Kashem was attacked. The incident took place at noon on Wednesday (June 7) at the entrance of the extended meeting place of the District Jatiya Party held at Tangail Press Club. Allegations of the attack have been leveled against supporters of Mozammel Haque, the joint convener of the district Jatiya Party. Presidium member Kashem was later rescued and admitted to Dhaka Clinic in Tangail. Eyewitness leaders and activists allege that Abul Kashem, a member of the party's presidium and former MP from Tangail-5 (Sadar) constituency, was attacked out of political revenge. Leaders and activists supporting Jatiya Party's joint convener Mozammel Hoque have planned the incident in front of the central leaders. They condemned the attack and demanded exemplary punishment for those involved. Abul Kashem, who is undergoing treatment, said Mozammel Haque, the joint convener of the district Jatiya Party, caused the incident to be a candidate for this parliamentary seat. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a crowd of mourners. However, district Jatiya Party joint convener Mozammel Haque denied the allegations and said, "I was also injured in the incident." Those who caused the incident are not my supporters or party leaders, they may be outsiders. He also said that the matter would be clear if he saw the video footage of the incident. Khandaker Nazim Uddin, senior joint convener of the district Jatiya Party, said the attack was motivated by purely political ambition. The assailants were wearing vests with pictures. They are not the leaders of our party. They pushed me as I entered the meeting place. In this regard, Jatiya Party Secretary General Mujibul Haque Chunnu said, this incident of attack happened in front of me. The incident has been very bad. Organizational measures will be taken in this regard including formation of investigation committee. He further said that there is no place in the team for those who will do all these hooliganism. There was nothing that I did to cause it. The future of those who caused the incident will not be good. Because Jatiya Party never compromises with injustice. Jatiya Party General Secretary Mujibul Haque Chunnu was the chief guest in the extended meeting. Special guests were Presidium Member and Additional Secretary General (Dhaka Division) Liaquat Hossain Khoka, Presidium Member Md. Zahirul Islam Zahir, Advisor to the Chairman of JAP and Khandaker Nazim Uddin, Senior Joint Convener of Tangail District JAP. Presidium member of the party Abul Kashem presided over the extended meeting.
