UP chairman beaten at meeting, panel mayor arrested

News Desk: Abdur Razzak Raja, panel mayor of Manikganj municipality and convener of district Juba League, was arrested for beating up the UP chairman at a monthly coordination meeting. Additional Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Saha of Sadar Circle confirmed the matter around 8 pm on Wednesday. A monthly coordination meeting was held at Sadar Upazila Parishad auditorium around 10 am on Wednesday. Sadar Upazila Chairman Md. Israfil Hossain, Sadar Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) Mohammad Iqbal Hossain and heads of various departments and chairmen of 10 Union Parishads of Sadar Upazila were present. It has been reported that a quarrel took place between the chairman of Bhararia Union Parishad and the panel mayor of the municipality Abdur Razzak Raja at the monthly coordination meeting of Sadar upazila this afternoon. At one point, panel mayor Raja slapped the UP chairman. When the situation of the meeting deteriorated, UNO appeared and informed the police administration. Police took panel mayor Abdur Razzak Raja into police custody from the spot. The victim UP chairman filed a case at around 7.30 pm. Police arrested the panel chairman Raja in the case. In this regard, Sadar Upazila Chairman Israfil Hossain said, such behavior of the people's representative is unfortunate. He said the matter should be decided legally. In this regard, Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Mohammad Iqbal Hossain said, after the coordination meeting, everyone was preparing for the meal. At this time he went to wash his hands. After a while he can come and find out about this incident. Later, when the situation escalated, the Sadar Thana police was informed. How can we provide security to the general public if such an incident occurs in a law and order meeting? The incident has been reported to the deputy commissioner. He said that it will be informed in writing tomorrow. Chairman of Bhararia Union Abdul Jalil said that due to previous animosity, Municipal Panel Mayor Abdur Razzak Raja slapped him in front of everyone at the monthly coordination meeting. The bomber struck shortly after noon in front of a crowd of 2,000 people. He has filed a case with the Sadar Police Station tonight. Municipal panel mayor Abdur Razzak Raja, who is in police custody, said the chairman was warned for talking ethically about the government's development activities. At this time he got excited and spoke insultingly. Three people commented that the chairman slapped me for protesting. Additional Superintendent of Police Bhaskar Saha (Sadar Circle) said that Bhararia UP Chairman Abdul Jalil has filed a case with the Sadar Police Station. Raja, the panel mayor of the accused municipality, has been in police custody since noon. He was arrested after the case was recorded. He said the accused would be sent to court tomorrow.
