A Russian soldier has been sentenced to life in prison in Ukraine for killing a civilian. This is the first time anyone has been convicted of war crimes against Russia. According to the BBC, Sergeant Vadim Shishimarin is a Russian tank commander sentenced to life in prison. He was charged with murdering 72-year-old Alexander Shelipov in the northeastern village of Chupakhivka on 28 February. Rake has been found guilty by the court. Shelipov confessed to shooting the old man. However, he claimed that he was doing this on the orders of the higher army command. He also apologized to his widow for this. Ukraine is also investigating war crimes against Russian troops on multiple charges. The country claims there have been more than 11,000 war crimes. Although Moscow has denied all allegations of civilian casualties against its troops. Earlier on Monday, Russia said it would try to protect Russian troops by expressing concern over the trial. However, Moscow has not yet commented on the ruling.
