Md. Sohail Rana Khan, Mainikganj: An expert team will be called to identify whether there is any defect in the electronic voting machine (EVM), said Election Commissioner (EC) Md. Alamgir. After the inauguration of the voter list update program in Manikganj on Friday (May 20) at noon, the Election Commissioner (EC) said. Alamgir said the Election Commission would call an expert team to identify the defects in the EVM by next June. The test will be conducted in front of the political parties. The decision will be taken only after the opinion of the experts whether EVM will be used in the parliamentary elections. He added that at present, EVMs have the capacity to vote in more than 100 constituencies. The number of EVMs may be increased if the confidence of political parties in this regard is restored. Election Commissioner Alamgir further said that it is not the job of the commission to bring the political parties to the polls, it is a matter of the government and the political parties. However, the present commission is working to gain the confidence of all political parties. He also mentioned that CCTV cameras will be installed in every polling booth in the upcoming Comilla City Corporation (CUSIC) elections. Deputy Commissioner Abdul Latif, Superintendent of Police Golam Azad Khan and others were present as special guests at the inauguration ceremony of the voter list update program.
