The money was paid to users from Facebook's settlement fund in a lawsuit filed in an Illinois court in 2020, according to a report by US media outlet NBC News. It said 1.6 million Illinois residents had filed a lawsuit against Facebook for allegedly protecting digital images of users' faces without permission.
