International Desk: Qatari-based Al Jazeera journalist has been shot dead by Israeli forces. The deceased was identified as Shirin Abu Akleh. He was shot dead by Israeli forces in the occupied West Bank.

The Palestinian Ministry of Health has confirmed this information. Al Jazeera reported this information in a report on Wednesday (May 11).

He was shot dead by Israeli forces during a security operation near the city of Jenin on Wednesday, the report said.

Al Jazeera's Nida Ibrahim says it is not yet clear under what circumstances Shirin Abu Akleh died. But a video of the incident showed Abu Akleh shot in the head.

Ibrahim from the Palestinian city of Ramallah said, "All we know so far is that the Palestinian Ministry of Health has announced the death of Shirin Abu Akleh. He was shot in the head on Wednesday while carrying out an Israeli operation in the northern Palestinian town of Jenin.

Nida Ibrahim added, "This incident is a shock to journalists working with Shirin Abu Akleh."

In a tearful voice, Ibrahim said Abu Akleh was a highly respected journalist. He has been working as an Al Jazeera journalist since the beginning of the second Palestinian intifada in 2000.

Meanwhile, Israeli security forces shot dead another Palestinian journalist during the shooting death of Al Jazeera's Shirin Abu Akleh. The Palestinian Ministry of Health says he was shot in the back by Jewish soldiers while on duty.

Al Jazeera says the injured journalist's name is Ali Samaudi. He works for the Jerusalem-based newspaper Quds. However, his condition is stable, the Qatar-based media reported.
