News Desk: The Ministry of Commerce has decided to continue the activities of the trade fair in compliance with the proper hygiene norms in the face of the restrictions imposed to combat the outbreak of coronavirus.

Tuesday (January 11) at noon Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce (Exports) said. Hafizur Rahman has confirmed the matter.

"In the light of the restrictions, we have seen that there is no difficulty in conducting trade fairs as per the instructions," he said. No situation was created to close the fair. It will be done as it needs to be done in the light of the rules. Market-shopping mall is going on, it is not open space either. However, as far as it is open, there will be strict monitoring to ensure that people follow the hygiene rules.

A month-long Dhaka International Trade Fair is being held at Bangabandhu Bangladesh-China Friendship Exhibition Center (BBCFEC) in the eastern part of the capital. The government has already imposed 11-point directives to curb the spread of coronavirus infections. After the Ministry of Public Administration issued a notification to impose restrictions on the whole country, including Dhaka, from Monday 13 January, there were fears whether the activities of the fair would continue or not. A day later, the Commerce Ministry announced its decision to continue the fair.

The government will impose restrictions across the country from January 13 (Thursday) as coronavirus infections continue to increase, including new types of omicron.

The circular said that all social, political, religious ceremonies and gatherings in open spaces should be closed until further notice as the incidence of covid infection is on the rise.

At the same time, in shops, shopping malls and markets, buyers and sellers and in all public places including hotels and restaurants, everyone must wear a mask, otherwise they will face legal punishment.

Export Development Bureau (EPB) Secretary and Director of the fair. Iftekhar Ahmed Chowdhury said, "If the fair continues despite the restrictions announced by the government, I will definitely take more measures to comply with the hygiene rules." Strictness on hygiene will increase in the fair. I will make the restrictions like myself.
